In 2005, Evangelyn moved to Harbin, China for her Bachelor and Master's education at the Harbin Institute of Technology. She was awarded her Master's degree in 2011, majoring in the molecular mechanism of kidney cancer progression. She then moved to Brisbane, Australia in 2012 to start her PhD with Dr Enzo Porrello, Dr Walter Thomas and Dr James Hudson, focusing the role of DNA methylation on post-natal cardiac development. Evangelyn is currently in the 3rd year of her PhD training.

Evangelyn’s current project is to study the role of DNA methylation in controlling the development and maturation of the heart. By combining next generation sequencing and classic molecular and cellular platforms, she is seeking to understand the set of genes and signaling pathways that are essential to the proliferation and differentiation process and discover their potential use in treating heart disease.
