Our lab examines how contemporary understanding of anatomy can be applied to clinical conditions. This has included the examination of the microcirculation in shock and resuscitation; the behaviour of the endothelial glycocalyx; responses to resuscitation; and changes with age and frailty.

This has developed from Professor Midwinter’s work in the UK, and he now works in collaboration with the Jamieson Trauma Institute and Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners.

  • Aging, frailty and muscle changes
  • Microcirculation form and function
  • Near infra-red spectroscopy in resuscitation in trauma
  • Vascular endothelial changes after injury
