Work with us
The School of Biomedical Sciences teaches into 14 undergraduate programs at The University of Queensland. Apply for a Casual Academic (demonstrator) position within our School if you would like to support teaching in the areas of anatomy, physiology, or pharmacology.
Casual demonstrators
Casual academic demonstrators play a vital role in teaching and learning. The School of Biomedical Sciences employs demonstrators to assist teaching staff in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology courses.
High-achieving undergraduate students, postgraduate coursework and research higher degree students are invited to apply. The School also welcomes applications from non-students who possess appropriate qualifications.
Selection is on a combination of merit and School needs. Casual demonstrators appointed previously will only be re-appointed if prior performance has been exemplary. Please read the duty statement for information on the role and the selection criteria for eligibility.

Applications
Applications for Semester 1 2025 will open on 1 November 2024 and close on 7 January 2025:
- Internal Applicants (already have UQ staff username): View Job Posting Details - Workday
- External Applicants: UQ Careers
Applicants are asked to indicate their academic background, teaching experience and course preferences. This information will be considered in matching demonstrators to course requirements. Selections are made in consultation with Course Coordinators.
Along with completing the application form, you will also need to submit your CV/Resume, Academic Transcript, and cover letter.
Most allocations occur before the beginning of semester but are not necessarily final until Week 3 of semester. A demonstrator may see a reduction in allocated hours or be assigned to a different course - this does not reflect on the demonstrator involved as it is usually due to unresolved timetabling constraints or fluctuations in enrolments.
Inductions and training
New applicants must be available for compulsory training sessions scheduled for the week prior to the start of semester.
Casual Academics are appointed on the basis of their academic qualifications and experience, they should possess the requisite knowledge for the course or the ability to acquire such through independent learning. All appointed demonstrators should familiarise themselves with the lecture and practical material for their course prior to the commencement of classes.
