The Anastasios and Evangelia Lavidis Grant in Aid was established in 2015 and is maintained by gifts from Associate Professor Nickolas Lavidis, the Lavidis family, and staff members within the School of Biomedical Sciences.
The purpose of the bursary is to support Honours and Higher Degree Research students (PhD and MPhil) enrolled in the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) and undertaking a research project with a primary advisor based in SBMS, who are facing financial hardship which is impeding their ability to progress in their studies.
Bursaries of up to $2500 may be awarded any time during the year.
Applications will be considered as they arise.
Eligibility
Students are eligible for consideration if they:
- Provide demonstrable evidence of financial hardship; and
- Have not already received a “Grant in Aid” bursary, or any other bursary the Head of School considers to be similar, in the same academic year; and
- Have submitted a complete application form to the Head of School; and
- Are enrolled through SBMS; and
- Are working in the lab of a primary advisor who is based at SBMS
Applicants must adequately demonstrate financial hardship. The information and evidence provided should be sufficient to enable the Selection Committee to comprehensively assess the applicant’s financial situation and its negative impact on the student’s academic progress.
Applicants who are in receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth-income support payment should include verification of this support with their application.
Application
Applications should be made via the online form and submitted to the Head of School of Biomedical Sciences.
Closing date
Applications may be submitted any time during the academic year.
Selection
To be decided by a selection committee comprising the Head of School and at least one other member of the University's academic staff who is currently teaching or conducting research in the School of Biomedical Sciences. The committee will treat all aspects of its proceedings with strict confidentiality, including the names of the applicants, and the information submitted for consideration.
The bursaries are awarded to applicants who successfully demonstrate:
- Evidence of financial hardship;
- Evidence that this hardship is impeding the student’s academic progress;
- Personal qualities the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant’s ability to successfully complete their studies within the School of Biomedical Sciences.
