Marlowe Crosdale
I studied a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Queensland. I began my research experience in the summer of 2023 with A/Prof Karin Borges in a largely computational project focused on developing a novel analysis method for immunohistochemical micrographs of mouse hippocampi. In the winter of 2024, I was awarded the Winter Research Scholarship to start work with A/Prof Borges and Dr James Cuffe on a collaborative project investigating the effects of selenium supplementation on foetal brain development during maternal thyroid autoimmunity using an induced rat model. The pilot data collected and analysed in that and following semester showed significant promise and I was further awarded the Kay Campbell Scholarship to continue my research over the Summer of 2024 and 2025. Additionally, I was accepted to present a poster at the Australasian Council of Undergraduate Research’s annual conference at the University of Sydney.
My upcoming Honours project is a collaboration between the Borges Laboratory and the Wolvetang Group principally supervised by A/Prof Borges and co-supervised by Dr Hannah Leeson and Dr Selin Pars. The project aims to investigate the role Glut1 glucose transporter dysfunction in the generation of epileptiform electrophysiology using patient-derived brain organoids.
