DONATION CLOSURE DUE TO CAPACITY LIMITATIONS
Due to the overwhelming generosity of South East Queenslanders, The UQ Body Donor Program has now reached its capacity for acceptance for the year of 2024. Effective immediately, UQ will not be accepting body donors until early 2025.
Should the death of a potential donor occur during this timeframe, families are kindly advised to contact a funeral home of their choice to proceed with normal funeral arrangements. We would still ask however, that you leave the deceased’s name, date of birth and date of death, either in a phone message or via email, so we can update our donor records accordingly.
We understand that our inability to accept an intended donation may cause concern at an already emotionally vulnerable time, so we encourage you to discuss this with your preferred funeral service provider who have trained staff to be able to assist you. We sincerely apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and wish to acknowledge the selfless and generous intention to donate to the Body Donor Program.
The Body Donor Program office will remain staffed to process registrations and enquiries whilst the capacity closure takes place - Your enquiry is important to our team, and we will endeavour to assist you with your enquiry as soon as possible.

The University of Queensland conducts a Body Donor Program through our School of Biomedical Sciences. This Program accepts donations of human bodies to assist the School in providing educational and research opportunities for staff and students in the health, medical and science disciplines. By studying anatomy in this way, it is possible to examine the complexities and infinite variations of the structure of the human body.
Most bodies are used in undergraduate teaching dissection programs which allow students to develop a fundamental knowledge of the human body. The study of anatomy also includes surgical skills development and medical research to investigate issues that continue to perplex medical science.
Donated bodies help to advance medical and scientific knowledge locally, nationally and internationally in order to promote health and alleviate suffering.
As at 25 July 2022, the exclusion policy pertaining to anyone who spent a cumulative total of 6 months or more in the UK between 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1996 has been lifted.
