UQ takes on Coastrek

2 Aug 2023

Three brave teams from SBMS participated in the Sunshine Coast Coastrek on 21 July, with academics, PhD students and professional staff joining in to walk and raise money for the Heart Foundation.

The Coastrek hiking challenge sees trekkers explore some of Australia’s most iconic coastal trails, including Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the Mornington Peninsula, the Sunshine Coast, the Fleurieu Peninsula and Margaret River.

Representing UQ, Lisa Akison, Uli Siebeck, Laura Fenlon and Rodrigo Suarez formed UQ and Beyond. Together with Repro Rockettes (comprised of Kelly Walton, Jo Bowles, Fiona Cheung and Cassy Spiller) they trekked 30km from Mudjimba to Noosa while Lab Coat Locomotives (Dayna Zimmerman, Elliott Neal, Bec Brady and Danni Burgess) walked 20 km from Coolum Beach.

The event was a great success with participants raising $783,000 for the Heart Foundation and the organisers even gave a welcome shoutout to UQ to the crowd of over 1000 people.

The UQ Teams are so close to their $6000 target and you can still sponsor individuals or teams. Links to the teams are below, and you can find individual members as well on the website:
