I studied Biomedical Science wanting to become a doctor and I am deeply interested in epilepsy research. When I was 8 years old, my 2-month-old sister, Jessica, had her first epileptic seizure. Jessica was later diagnosed with a condition resulting in intractable epilepsy, global developmental delay, and severe intellectual disability. I have witnessed how medication does not always prevent and stop seizures. This experience has evoked my passion for becoming a medical practitioner and my interest in epilepsy research. In my Honours thesis I investigated the mechanisms of intermittent fasting and whether it can prevent seizures (manuscript in preparation). I love being in the lab, where I can be creative, design and carry out experiments, perform data analysis, read and write and help other people with their work. Recently, I have built a new apparatus to study metabolism in brain slices.
