Research Abroad for Research Experience
Work and learn overseas
UQ has formed alliances with sister schools in other countries to provide unique opportunities for research students to expand their horizons by experiencing a distinctive international research environment during their study program. Students are encouraged to live and work in another country in order to gain access to novel ideas and new technologies that enhance their research degree project.
Interested students should explore the possibilities outlined below.
Otago-UQ PhD Initiative
UQ has teamed up with the Otago Medical School at the University of Otago in New Zealand to facilitate short-term visits between participating laboratories. Both Universities wish to facilitate collaborations between countries with a goal towards forging lasting collaborations that will seed innovative projects and lead to new capabilities. Central to this initiative is the PhD student experience.
Students may seek funds to support their travel and time abroad through participating labs as well as from their respective Schools or Institutes. This program was established with the idea that a typical exchange would be between 2 weeks and 2 months. However, other time frames may be considered if they are consistent with the student’s program of study.
