Chronic diseases

Chronic disease is on the rise in Australia, with more than 50 per cent of Australians reported as having at least one chronic disease. SBMS researchers are discovering mechanisms of the causes and progression of, and designing therapies for, these long-term diseases. The School has a number of researchers studying neurodegenerative diseases (neuro-muscular disease including motor neuron disease, dementia and traumatic brain and spinal injury), as well as congenic neurodevelopment disorders and brain cancers.
